A domain name represents the address used to access a website. It normally starts with 'www' and will be shown in the top browser bar when viewing a website.

In simple terms, website hosting is a type of Internet hosting service that provides the services required to host a website and make this available online. 

Website hosting will normally be managed by a specialised website hosting company who will charge a monthly or annual fee in return for the services they provide. As part of the hosting service, email accounts, SSL certificates and support will normally be provided as standard. 

A hosting contract will normally be renewed on a yearly basis and written notice to transfer the hosting will need to be given prior to being able to transfer it.

It can take many weeks for a new website to start to show on the Google search results. That said, it can take only a matter of days. The truth is, there's no way of really knowing how long Google will take to index a new website as it varies for each site. Their algorithm indexes your site when it decides to index your site.

There are things that can be done to speed up the amount of time it takes, including getting a site visible across the various Google services provided, such as Google Business Profile, Google Analytics and Google Search Console. Acquiring some good quality back-links can also help as can providing high quality content.

As with any business, some web agencies may provide a better service than others and may be able to assist better with large scale projects. Unfortunately not! Search engines work using complex algorithms to calculate how well a website should be ranked in relation to the search phrases being used. They will take into account many factors, including content, authority, web core vitals (speed, usability, etc) and back-links. Getting to that elusive top position is extremely hard, particularly if you are targeting more competitive key phrases. The problem is that every other website offering the same products and services as you will also be competing for that top position on Google.

It can take a great deal of time, expertise and patience to optimise a website successfully. The position of a website ranking can also change over time due to changes in Google's algorithms and competitors investing more time and energy into their sites. In this respect, it can be a constant battle to maintain a good ranking.

Instead, we carry out the tasks that we know work in terms of getting a website more highly ranked, which should then see the position of a website moving up in the rankings over time. We always stress that this will not happen overnight and it can take several months before any change is visible.

You certainly do - a website will be owned by you once you have paid for it in full. This means you can host the website wherever you choose (within the terms of the hosting contract) and should be provided with a full copy of all the website files and any database, if this is requested.
